Freshman Tese Ajorgbor gives you a tour of the new dorms in Goodman, including her room, the common area and bathrooms.
OU Residence Hall Tour: Goodman
Hi, everybody, my name is Tese Ajorgbor, I'm a fashion student here at Oglethorpe. I play on the basketball team and I'm a Business major. I'm originally from the UK but I do live in Forsyth County, and I live in Goodman.
Hi, everyone, welcome to my dorm in Goodman. Come on in. Alright, so this is what is the Goodman dorms look like. I just want to start off with this corner over here. So every Goodman dorm does come with two desks because you will be having a roommate. I just don't have a roommate this semester, because of covid and everything like that, but expect to have a roommate. So I just decided to put my desk over here, the dorm does come with the chair as well. And the table has a lot of space for you to put your laptop planners. I have a lamp over here and I have a container. So it's a really nice desk, lots of room, it's really new. And I like the color of it too. It's very modern. And then going over this way. So this is the bed that I do not utilize. This has not been adjusted for height. And this is what the bed looks like when you first arrived. But you can lower it to your preference. It's a really nice bed, it's a twin XL. So just be mindful of that when you buy bedding and stuff like that. And then underneath it, I decided to put my drawers here, the Goodman rooms come with two drawers. And we have three different compartments. There's a lot of space, yeah, it's really spacious. So you should have enough room to put all your clothes and everything you need like that. And then over here, I decided to put the other desk. I decided to use it as a nightside table kind of thing. Because like I said before, I don't have a roommate. And then this is the bed that I do sleep on, I decided to lower it just because it's easy to get into my bed that way, and I feel more comfortable like that. And then what's really lovely, as I have this huge window that brings in a lot of light. I really like natural lighting. So if you'd like that to Goodman is the perfect one for you. And then there's a lot of space on the wall to put pictures and anything you like, like that, any decorations that you would like. So that's really great. And then coming over here, Goodman does come with two really big dressers. I do use both of them. But I don't think I actually would, one would actually be enough. But I decided to just use both because the more the merrier. Yeah. And then I also decided to bring a coat hanger, I think a coat hanger would be really important important if you decide to live in Goodman, because it doesn't come with one. And it's nice, because you can take a towel up there, good shower caddy, which you will need one, and you can throw coats and stuff like that on there too. And then obviously, we just have the light switch here, it's just by the door. And then going on to the AC heating unit. It's really new, it's really modern, really easy to use, I love it. And then the controls are just right by the light switch. And if you ever have a problem with your AC unit, you can always just call campus maintenance. And they will get that fixed up for you. So they're really happy about that. So yeah, that's pretty much my room in Goodman.
Alright, everyone, let me show you around the Goodman lounge. So it's really, really nice. And it's newly renovated. They just renovated the lounge and this whole building in 2020. So everything is new, everything is updated. This lounge is shared between the men and the women. So we can just come in here have social time. Sometimes you can do your homework. I know people who come in here and do their online classes, even though next semester will all be in person. So it's really nice, a huge couch. Really nice material. Just really nice and updated. The light fixtures are really nice, really pretty. And then there's a sink over here. So you can use that if you need to clean like your dishes, or if you just need to wash your hands or something like that. A lot of tables. So there's a lot of space in here. Sometimes the RA's like to throw all events in here. So everyone just likes to come together and just gather in this area. It's really nice just to get away from your room sometimes. And I would recommend coming here just like chill and hang out. So yeah, this is the Goodman lounge.
And I'm going to take you through the Goodman showers and restroom it is communal. So everyone on this first level is going to share the same restroom, and toilets, and bathroom, etc. So when you come into it, looking out to your left, you have all the other dorms, and then the exit, and then looking to your right. We have Goodman 101, which is where I live in, the laundry room, and then the exit just to give you some perspective. Coming in, you have two regular bath toilets and the one handicapped toilet on the end and then trash can right here. Along with a paper towel machine, and two sinks. And then there's a mirror right above it. So really big mirror, but I don't want to show myself. But I'd say it's about four feet tall, maybe four and a half feet tall, and then five feet wide. And then the walls are just painted this beautiful royal blue color. Everything in here is modern, everything in here is updated. And there's an AC unit up here, a fire alarm, and then there are three showers. There's a really large body mirror here. So if you didn't bring a long mirror with you, it's okay because there's a huge one in the restroom. So walking into the showers, is this great tiling, and then the showers just look like this. I would recommend bringing a shower caddy, so you don't have to hold everything. It's a place where you can put your shampoo, your soap, but it's not that large. So yes, I would recommend bringing the shower caddy. And then there are two hooks, I use this hook right here to pull up my shower caddy. And I use this hook right here on the door to put my towel. And then just to show you what all the other restrooms, I mean, showers look like they all look like this. They're all identical. There's three of them like I said before. You can adjust the showerhead to if you're tall, to cover you, you can lower it. And the way the showers work is that to turn it on, you just twist this knob to the left. This is hot all the way over here. And then this is cold. So turn right for cold, turn left that hot, just like a regular shower, really. And then just to show you the last one, it's the same thing again, the doors just open like that. And then hit the shower, same thing. shower curtain, and then when you turn around. You've got three sinks; one here, one here, one here, and then you have outlets, in case you have any appliances, like a hair blow dryer, or an electric toothbrush, anything like that. And then once again, there's a huge mirror. As you can see a mirror. It's about the same size as the other mirror. It might be a little bit longer, but it's around the same height. And then like I showed you before, you have the full length mirror over there. We have another little restroom. So you come up the right, and then you make another right down this hall, and then right here is another restaurant for handicap.
So this is what it looks like.
You have a toilet here, and then a shower for handicap, and then a sink, a mirror, a trashcan and a paper towel dispenser. And then we just had that same royal blue collar ties everything together. It's really beautiful floors and same tiles. The shower is essentially the same material, the same color, the same backsplash, whatever you want to call it.
So yes, that is essentially the end of the Goodman restroom tour. Thank you so much for watching, and I hope you consider staying in Goodman for your residence hall.
